St. Goretti Higher Secondary School is an Aided school, which was established in 1953 by the Late Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr Jerome. M. Fernandez. Though it was founded as a UP school it was upgraded to a co-educational High school in 1976 and a Higher Secondary School (plus two) in 2000 by the first Bishop of Punalur, His Excellency, Rt. Rev. Dr Matias Kappil of fond memory. The school, which enjoys a minority status, is owned and Managed by the catholic Corporate Management of Catholic schools of the diocese of Punalur. The patron of the school is His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. SelvisterPonnumuthan, the Bishop Punalur.
Being Located in the 8 th ward of the Punalur Municipality at the district of Kollam by the Punalur Railway station on the way to historic Punalur Paper Mill. St. Goretti campus has become a land mark of Punalur. The patron saint of the school is St. Maria Goretti, an Italian Saint who sacrificed her life at the tender age of 12 defending her chastity. Her feast is celebrated with jubilance on July 6th of every year.
There are about 2000 Literary books, 30 Computers, 60 classrooms, 93 teachers and the standards range from 5 to 12. Other than hand pump there is tube well and tap water facilities. The school has a decent play ground. Computer aided learning is provided to children. There are ramps for the disabled and CCTV facilities ensure a meticulous surveillance of the school campus. Now we are privileged to have four buses to take children from door to door.
