VIDEO

The Christian missionaries stressed the need for education with a view to uplift the downtrodden who had been expelled from the main stream of the society in which the inequities were prevalent on account of caste and religion. The befitting specimen for the continuity of their mission activities they had enkindled, is St. Theresa's Primary school, which is located at the east mountain part of the district of kollam, 50 KM away from the seashore, on the south east of the Edamulaykal village panchayath in Chempakaramanalloor.

This zone is primarily inhabited by the peasants and the ordinary folks who are socially backward. With an intent on elevating the social and cultural enervation of these poor sections of folks, Rev. Fr C. K. Mathew ( Anchal Vallyachan), who had an earnest intuition from God and thus he gathered all the villagers and commenced night classes for them in the year 192 on October. Gradually it obtained recognition of the government of Travancore and succeedingly from the government of Thirukochi as well. This temple of Saraswathy was later known by the title, Little Flower Primary School.

Little Flower Primary School came under the Jurisdiction of the corporate management of Quilon helmed by Rt. Rev. Dr. Jerome. M. Fernandez, the bishop of Quilon. In 1952, the Thirukochi government approved it as a grant in aid school. In 1954, June onwards, this school came to be known as St. Theresa's Primary School. Mr. T. C. Varghese of Thunduvila Puthen Veedu was the foremost admittee of the school. There were 81 students and two teachers at that time. Mr. C Abraham was the very first Head Master of this school and Mr. M. Zachariah was the co- teacher. On account of the partition of the Quilon Diocese, this school came under the jurisdiction of Punalur Diocese. As a memorial to the golden jubilee of the school a new school building was erected and granted by late Rt. Rev. Dr. Mathias Kappil. Hitherto, this school stands for the welfare of the society. /p>
