St. Goretti Higher Secondary School is an Aided school, which was established in 1953 by the Late Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr Jerome. M. Fernandez. Though it was founded as a UP school it was upgraded to a co-educational High school in 1976 and a Higher Secondary School (plus two) in 2000 by the first Bishop of Punalur, His Excellency, Rt. Rev. Dr Mathias Kappil of fond memory. The school, which enjoys a minority status, is owned and managed by the catholic Corporate Management of Catholic schools of the Diocese of Punalur. The patron of the school is His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. Selvister Ponnumuthan, the Bishop Punalur.

Being Located in the 8 th ward of the Punalur Municipality at the district of Kollam by the Punalur Railway station on the way to historic Punalur Paper Mill, St. Goretti campus has become a land mark of Punalur. The patron saint of the school is St. Maria Goretti, an Italian Saint who sacrificed her life at the tender age of 12 defending her chastity. Her feast is celebrated with jubilance on July 6th of every year.

There are two batches for Science (Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology), one batch for Humanities (History, Economics, Political Science) 2 and one batch for Commerce ( Accountancy with Computerized Accounting, Business Studies with Financial Management, Economics and Computer Application ). The total intake has exhibited a marginal increase from200 to 240. The total student strength is 480 supported by a dedicated staff of 24.

St. Goretti HSS is the flagship educational institution of the Corporate Management and has excellent academic records along with other co-scholastic activities and value education for moulding global citizens. Co-Scholastic activities include Career Guidance and Adolescent Counselling, Sauhridha Club, National Service Scheme ( NSS), “Karuth” English Club, Malayalam Samajam, Science Club, Environmental Club, Social Club, Commerce Hub, Vayanakoottam, Neitzens, School Choir and School Band etc.

ASAP—Additional Skill Acquisition Program ( Naipunya ) of the Government of Kerala was started in 2014 for a batch of 30. 'Karuth', Taekwondo, the self defence programme has been initiated for a batch of 50 girls and Ongoing 'Mentoring Program reaches out to every student for individual growth. Other programs are 'Charity @ School' for enhancing social commitment and, 'Aspire 30' for high achievement motivation. Digital Language Lab is being set up for English Language Training.
