The Ayur region covers the east mountain part of the Taluk of Pathanapuram (Presently the Punalur-Taluk) at the district of Kollam; belonging to the thirteenth ward of Edamulaykal panchayath in the Anchal block. The majority of the inhabitants of this area were either peasants or rubber tappers. In 1907, on March 10th, the priests belonging to the Latin Catholic Church built Church buildings for the cultural advancement of the people who had retained a very considerable standard with regard to education and culture. In the same year a Latin Catholic Church was founded at Neerakodu in Anchal. There were hardly five Christian families in this church. It was in the year 1949 that St. George L.P. S was established under the supervision of Rt. Rev. Dr. Jerome. M. Fernandez , the late bishop Emeritus of Quilon.
Rev. Fr. Vincent Valiyatharayil had taken up the charge of the school. Mr John was the prime Head Master of the school. There were 256 students in total in the first batch and three teachers. The standard ranged from five to seven. The students had come to St. George L. P. S after having their primary education at Ayur Government L. P. S. In 1973 an L. P section was adjoined to the school with the tireless efforts of Rev. Fr. Harry D' Souza, the parish priest at that time. This school stands as a decorative ornament at the forehead of Ayur. St. George L.P.S carries forward its journey of triumph even today as well.
